Established in 1917 as Western Montana Electric Company, today Western Montana Lighting is Missoula flagship lighting showroom. Owner Drew Mihelish turned to me in September 2017 to tell the company’s story and profile the expert employees who have made this home-grown business an industry leader well beyond Western Montana.

100 Years of Lighting Missoula
The story of Western Montana Lighting is intricately intertwined with the history of Missoula, Montana. To complement WML’s centennial, I told the story of the family and philosophy behind the business.
Celebrating a Centennial by Giving Back
In 2017, Western Montana Lighting marked one hundred years of service to the Missoula community. To mark the milestone, WML created a scholarship to support one student in the Sustainable Construction program at Missoula College. I profiled Tommy Jensen, the inaugural recipient, at the end of his first year in the program.
Bringing Light to the National Tree
In November 2017, Western Montana Lighting was honored with the challenge of creating a lighted star to adorn the national Christmas tree that would be on display in Washington D.C.
