Photography

Over the years, I've come to recognize the parallels between a good photo and a good bit of writing: Each is a snippet of life from another's perspective, a distillation to an essence that's both deeply personal and universally resonant.

Photography has piqued my interest since I was a teenager wandering around Missoula with my dad's 1971 Pentax 35mm camera. I carted that camera to college in Seattle, a study-abroad semester in Grenoble, and train-hopping weekends in unusual corners of western Europe, always trying to capture little moments of the world as I experienced it.

In the years since, I've switched to a Sony a200 DSLR as my tool of choice, though that old film camera remains the best equipment I've ever used. Below, you'll find a sampling of my favorite digital photos. You can also find some of my photography in this post published on Make It Missoula, a local relocation website, and in my Montana Wildflower of the Day series on Instagram.
